HSE Construction Inspection Initiative September 2013
HSE inspectors are carrying out a major inspection and enforcement initiative targeting the refurbishment sector, from 2 to 27 September 2013.
As HSE’s campaign targeting poor standards and unsafe practices on Britain’s construction sites enters its third week, this short film serves as a timely and poignant reminder of the consequences of failing to protect people at work.
HSE inspectors have, so far, inspected 1500 contractors and carried out over a thousand site inspections. Inspectors found material breaches at just less than half the sites visited and issued Notices of Contravention. A number of sites have also been served enforcement notices. Final figures will be published once all that data has been complied.
Have a look at photographs taken by HSE inspectors during the first few weeks of the construction inspection initiative and see what they have found whilst carrying out their inspections.
HSE inspectors will continue to make unannounced site visits until 27 September 2013.
Here is a brief reminder of some of the issues they will be looking at when they visit;
